Sodium Bicarbonate
In the pharmaceutical industry, sodium bicarbonate is mainly used to neutralise gastric acid and for haemodialysis. Sodium bicarbonate is used directly as a raw material in the pharmaceutical industry for the treatment of hyperacidity .Sodium bicarbonate cartridges are used during dialysis to purify the blood while maintaining its pH within the normal range, i.e. to correct the acidification process associated with osmotic separation.
Sodium Metabisulfite
Sodium metabisulfite is used as an antioxidant in oral, injectable and topical preparations. It is mainly used in acidic preparations, but sodium sulfite works better in alkaline preparations. Sodium metabisulfite also has some antibacterial activity, with the strongest activity under acidic conditions. It can also be used as a preservative in oral preparations such as syrups.
