1. Flotation depressant

Sodium metabisulfite (SMBS) is mainly used for the detoxification of cyanide in gold minin. Gold concentrate is leached with dilute hydrochloric acid and bleach, filtered to remove solid impurities, and gold is precipitated using sodium metabisulfite.

2. Tanning industry

Used for leather processing in tanning industry, which can make leather soft, plump, tough, waterproof, foldable and wearable.

3. Textile Industry

Sodium metabisulfite is used as a reducing agent for dechlorination in textile printing and dyeing to remove residual chlorine that remains in the fabric even after rinsing. It can also be used as a bleaching agent for wool and jute to restore brightness and eliminate stains.

4. Pulp and paper industry

It is mainly used as a bleaching agent in the pulp and paper industry.

5. Oil field

Sodium metabisulfite is mainly used for wastewater treatment in oil fields.

6. Photographic

It is used as a developer in the photographic industry.

7. Metal plating industry

Main application: metal plating industry wastewater treatment. Because chromic acid used for electroplating is hexavalent chromium, which is very toxic, and environmental protection does not allow direct discharge, hexavalent chromium is reduced to trivalent chromium with coke, and then precipitated by reaction with alkali.

8. Chemical industry

It has a wide range of applications in the chemical industry as a direct raw material, such as in the production of hydroxyvanillin and hydroxylamine hydrochloride.

9. Rubber industry

Sodium metabisulfite is mainly used as a coagulant.
