Top Sodium CMC Manufacturers and Suppliers in China: A Buyer’s Comparison

Sodium CMC purchasing comparison: viscosity method, grade and supply plan

Choosing a sodium carboxymethyl cellulose supplier starts with the application. A beverage stabilizer, toothpaste binder and industrial processing aid can all be sold as CMC, yet require different specifications. A useful China supplier comparison should connect each company's product focus with the grade, testing and order arrangements you need.

This guide compares Chongqing Lihong, Bergano Chemical, Changshu Wealthy, Dongying Linguang and Unitech Chemicals Zibo. It brings together four manufacturers and one exporter, giving buyers several routes to an order-specific quotation.

Published by Bergano Chemical, which is included as an exporter. This is a sourcing guide, not a ranking: the companies are not scored or ordered by quality.

Compare five manufacturers and suppliers

Chongqing Lihong Fine Chemicals

Company role: Specialist CMC and polyanionic cellulose (PAC) manufacturer.

Production or supply focus: Sodium CMC for food, toothpaste, batteries, ceramics, papermaking and other industrial applications, alongside PAC products.

What distinguishes it: Its official company profile describes exports across the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. The Chongqing-based company's product range separates food CMC into different viscosity categories and distinguishes conventional and higher-substitution toothpaste products. This provides a useful starting point for a technical discussion about which product family matches a formulation.

Buying fit: Buyers comparing several CMC applications or seeking a manufacturer with clearly differentiated food and oral-care product options.

Buying details: The exact product code, viscosity method, degree of substitution and application requirements. Request the specification for the offered grade rather than relying on a viscosity range covering several products.

Bergano Chemical

Company role: China-based chemical exporter.

Production or supply focus: Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose supplied against the buyer's application and specification requirements.

What distinguishes it: Bergano supports low-MOQ orders and multiple products in one container, provides specification sheets and SDS, and supplies batch COA documentation. One contact coordinates CMC and other products in a consolidated order, including packaging and export documents.

Buying fit: Importers and distributors seeking flexible purchasing quantities, mixed-product orders and one point of contact for commercial and document coordination.

Buying details: Send your application, viscosity test conditions, purity and DS requirements, quantities and destination. We confirm the final product mix, minimum quantities and dispatch timing in your quotation.

Changshu Wealthy Science and Technology

Company role: Specialist sodium CMC manufacturer.

Production or supply focus: CMC for food, toothpaste, ceramics, batteries and other applications. The company identifies its factory in Changshu, Jiangsu, and Shanghai Jiaohang Trading as a wholly owned sales business.

What distinguishes it: Its company profile describes worldwide exports and a dedicated export subsidiary. Its food application page lists separate acid-stable and conventional food CMC product series. That distinction is useful when shortlisting materials for products with different acidity and processing conditions.

Buying fit: Food and beverage producers comparing CMC product families before conducting formulation trials.

Buying details: The recommended product code for the actual formulation, full viscosity method and current food-grade documentation. Establish which entity will contract and invoice the order; the factory and its sales subsidiary should not be counted as separate manufacturers.

Dongying Linguang New Material Technology

Company role: CMC and PAC manufacturer.

Production or supply focus: Linguang-brand CMC and PAC, with published categories covering food additives, toothpaste, batteries, textiles, coatings, ceramics and oil drilling.

What distinguishes it: Its company profile identifies a manufacturing business in Dongying, Shandong, and a product range spanning food and technical uses. It also identifies Qingdao Linguang Biochemical as a subsidiary, helping buyers distinguish the production business from a related sales entity.

Buying fit: Buyers building a shortlist across several CMC uses and comparing application-specific products within a manufacturer's range.

Buying details: Producing site, contracting entity and the specification for the exact application. Food, battery and oilfield products require separate qualification; a company-wide description does not establish that one grade suits all three.

Unitech Chemicals Zibo

Company role: Chemical manufacturer with CMC and PAC production.

Production or supply focus: Food-grade sodium CMC and PAC, within a wider product portfolio that also includes sucralose and organophilic clay.

What distinguishes it: Unitech describes itself as a CMC/PAC manufacturer and lists export markets across several continents in its company profile. It also reported presenting Dynacel CMC at IFT Chicago 2025. Its food-grade CMC product page identifies the Dynacel brand and publishes viscosity conditions, minimum DS and dry-basis purity information. A stated measurement basis is more useful for an initial comparison than a generic “high viscosity” description.

Buying fit: Buyers seeking a food-CMC manufacturer with published technical parameters to use as a starting point for qualification.

Buying details: An up-to-date, product-specific specification, complete viscosity procedure and batch COA. Agree on the applicable food specification and test methods; an online product table should not replace the documents accepted for the order.

How to choose the best CMC supplier for your application

The best fit depends on both product performance and purchasing conditions. Use the same technical enquiry when approaching each shortlisted company.

1. Separate food-grade and technical requirements

State the intended use at the start: beverage, frozen dessert, toothpaste, detergent, ceramics, drilling fluid or another application. Specify sodium CMC clearly, including whether a pure material or a formulated blend is required.

For food use, request the applicable specification and destination-market documentation. The FAO/JECFA sodium CMC monograph includes a minimum assay of 99.5% on a dried basis and separate limits for sodium chloride and free glycolate. These illustrate why a food-CMC specification includes more than viscosity. They do not establish that every commercial CMC product meets that specification or that a particular food use is permitted in every market.

For technical use, agree on the performance and purity requirements relevant to the process. Food-grade status alone does not establish suitability for a battery slurry, ceramic glaze or drilling-fluid system.

2. Compare viscosity using the same test method

A viscosity figure without test conditions is incomplete. Ask for:

  • Solution concentration and whether it is calculated on an as-supplied or dry basis
  • Test temperature
  • Instrument model, spindle and rotation speed, where applicable
  • Water quality, preparation procedure and hydration time
  • Acceptance range and reporting units

Manufacturers publish CMC viscosities at different concentrations. For example, Lihong's product tables use both 1% and 2% solutions for different food-CMC categories. Treat those figures as different measurement conditions, not directly interchangeable numbers. Agree on one procedure before testing competing samples.

3. Specify degree of substitution and purity separately

Degree of substitution, usually shortened to DS, describes the average number of substituted hydroxyl groups per cellulose repeating unit. It is a structural parameter, not a purity percentage. The JECFA monograph treats DS and assay as separate specification items.

Ask the supplier to recommend a DS range for the application and support the recommendation with a trial sample. Review purity, moisture and relevant residual salts separately. Do not assume that the highest DS or viscosity necessarily gives the best result in your formulation.

4. Qualify performance in your own process

Evaluate shortlisted samples using the same preparation method and acceptance criteria. Record dispersibility, hydration time, solution appearance and the performance that matters in the finished product.

Use the actual water quality, pH, ingredient mix, processing temperature and storage conditions where practical. A useful trial answers whether the material works at the intended dosage and process settings, rather than merely reproducing the supplier's viscosity result.

If a supplier recommends an acid-stable, granular or dispersible grade, make that claimed advantage part of the trial. Keep the approved product code and agreed specification linked to subsequent purchase orders.

5. Compare documents and delivered cost

Request a specification sheet, SDS and representative COA during qualification, followed by the required batch COA for shipment. Identify any customer-required certificates and confirm that they cover the relevant site and product.

Commercial comparisons should use the same quantity, packaging, destination and Incoterm. Include sample costs, freight, pallet requirements and any consolidation charges. Confirm dispatch timing separately from ocean transit and customs clearance.

Who is the largest CMC manufacturer in China?

A defensible answer needs comparable, dated production data. The company sources reviewed here do not establish a single largest Chinese sodium CMC manufacturer on a consistent basis. Some public figures combine CMC and PAC, while others describe different production phases or expansion projects.

If scale is important to your order, ask for current operating sodium-CMC capacity, the producing site, relevant grade availability and the allocation that can support your supply schedule. Keep capacity, actual output and available stock separate. A large headline figure does not confirm that the required grade is available for your shipment.

Factory direct or export supplier: which route fits your order?

Direct manufacturer sourcing

A direct manufacturer relationship can suit predictable, repeat demand for a qualified CMC grade. It can also make sense when your team needs detailed discussion of viscosity methods, formulation testing or a particular product family.

Confirm the production site and authorized sales entity early. Compare the full delivered offer rather than assuming a factory quotation automatically gives the lowest total purchasing cost.

Export supply and mixed-product purchasing

An exporter can be useful when purchase quantities vary or the order combines CMC with other products. The commercial value is coordinating the selected specifications, quantities, packing and shipment documents around the buying requirement.

Bergano works in this export-supply role. Buyers can discuss low-MOQ CMC requirements and multiple products in one container, with quantities and loading compatibility confirmed for the specific order.

Request a CMC quotation that can be compared

A clear enquiry helps each supplier recommend an appropriate product and quote on the same basis. Include:

  1. Intended application and required food or technical specification
  2. Target viscosity and full test method
  3. Required DS, purity and other acceptance limits
  4. Trial quantity, order quantity and expected repeat demand
  5. Packaging, pallet and labelling requirements
  6. Destination port, delivery basis and required date
  7. COA, SDS and any additional qualification documents

Review Bergano's sodium CMC product, then see How to Purchase for the ordering process. Send the requirements through Contact Bergano to discuss a CMC offer or a compatible mixed-product shipment.
